Episode 43: May The Force Be With You...We Have Spoken!

As 2019 came to a close, fans had Star Wars coming at them on both the big and small screens: we were ending the fabulous Mandalorian TV series on Disney +, and the final movie in the "Skywalker saga," Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, was released. Dare we say, reactions to these two productions couldn't be more different. The Planet 8 crew first discusses their feelings -we search our feelings -about Episode IX, a film that has continued the controversy from The Last Jedi. We came out of the film with a lot of questions, some frustrations, and a few things we enjoyed. We just wish there had been more.

On the other side of the galaxy, Disney + really hit it out of the park with the last half of The Mandalorian. We reviewed the first half of the season in episode 40, and all three of us absolutely loved it. The last four episodes delivered on the set up of the first four. We all felt that the conclusion was very satisfying. The final episode was thrilling; it had the right amounts of action and heart. And it's perfectly set up for the second season, as Mando is now bound to the Child and must help find his home. We discuss what we hope to see in the second season...which feels so very far away right now!

For our Sensor Sweep, we keep our Star Wars theme, as Commander Larry discusses his experience meeting Anthony Daniels, aka C-3PO, during his tour for his book, I am C-3PO. Larry found Mr. Daniels to be a charming gentleman.

We have a special request: if you can't wait to listen to our episodes, if we've enlightened and entertained you, please consider nominating Planet 8 for a Rondo award for Best Multimedia site. You can click here for the details. Thanks again for the support you have given us!

That's all for us this time friends. We look forward to hearing your thoughts about Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian. Are you looking forward to more Star Wars from Disney +? What kind of shows would you like to see? Let us know. Leave your comments here, or hit us up at our other telecommunication locations:

Thanks for Listening!

Our closing song is Star Wars by The Lounge Brigade.

  1. Well, Rey kissing Ben/Kylo makes a lot of sense after she states her last name being "Skywalker". They really fumbled the ball with Joseph Boyega character, Finn. Is he one with the force, and a viable character? Is he Stupid Comic Relief? Is he just the Romantic Third Wheel in the "forced" Triple Decker Poe Dameron, Rey, and Finn Sandwich? Such a waste of a good actor, as the Star Wars series seems to do. Jeez! This movie was so disappointing.
Now, The Mandalorian..., YES!!! Did you 3 ever think that the first 4 episodes were the testing episodes for "The Child"/Baby Yoda? Just to see if fans Love or Hate Him? Ep.4 was the chance to end The Child Arc, because Episodes 5 & 6 seemed like they were void of Baby Yoda originally, and that the scenes with him were inserted later? They really seem that way to me, as the scenes seem to be just thrown into each episode. They just look added in to me. Other than this, I love the series, and Baby Yoda/Clone Yoda/The Child too! I was shocked that they killed Kuiil (koo-eel)not Krill, and IG-11's sacrifice. Also shocked to see Moff Gideon in possession of the Dark Saber. I have watched all 8 episodes a few times each, and will continue to watch them until Series 2 begins. I also love that many of the special effects are practical, or at least practical with cg assistance. This gives it the charm of the "Original SW Trilogy". As I recall, there are three main Mandalorian Factions: The Followers of Mandalore (Honor, Weapons, and Fighting), The very small Pacifist Faction (If they even still exist, and the Deathwatch (Crave Power, Weapons, & Fighting) which side with the Empire. The original alien species, the Taung, who renamed themselves Mandalorian and originated the culture practiced by non-Taung (Mostly Humanoid) Mandalorians.
So much history mixed in Legends, Expanded Universe, & Ever Changing Canon.
Keep up the good work, as always!
