Episode 7: Going Where Monsters Walked

Have you ever watched a classic sci-fi or monster movie and wondered, "Where the heck did they film this?" If so, this is the podcast for you! This episode the crew -Larry, Bob, and Karen - have a sit down with Gail and Ray Orwig, authors of the terrific book, Where Monsters Walked: California Locations of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, 1925-1965. Gail and Ray discuss what drove them to write the book, the secrets to finding so many filming locations, and the many adventures they had along the way! What was the hardest, but most fulfilling movie location to find? You'll have to listen to find out -but it involved some enlarged critters...

  1. Ah, yes, so nice to leave a comment for a current show - unlike the over one-month delay on my Ant-Man & Wasp comment.
Anyway, another great episode! I always like learning some new stuff, especially when you have interesting guests to explain it. I was only vaguely aware of some of these locations for the movies and TV all of us geeks love so much, and it's so cool that Gail and Ray not only embarked on the long-term project to explore these places but then also write a book about it. (Also, I love the T-shirt Gail is wearing in that photograph.)
You guys conducted a great conversation as well; there were several points where I was thinking it would be cool to ask them such and such, and sure enough, one of you asked that very question.

  2. Hi Edo, thanks for your kind remarks. We had a blast talking with Ray and Gail, and would love to have them back on the show. As you can tell, they are incredibly knowledgeable and a lot of fun too. There were a million questions we could have asked, and believe me, there was a lot of discussion both before and after the digital tape rolled! I'm glad we were able to provide you with some new information and ideas to explore. We'll be bringing more guests on in future episodes.
