Episode 62: Bingeing the Stream

Like everyone else, your Planet 8 crew has been stuck inside, trying to keep ourselves entertained and sane. So we thought we'd discuss what we've been watching and what we think of it. So settle in and get ready for a show that goes from super-heroes to zombies, to androids, to starships, to bounty hunters, and who knows what else! Note, this is a SPOILER-FILLED episode!

Among the shows we cover are:

  • The Boys
  • Umbrella Academy
  • Raised By Wolves
  • Lovecraft Country
  • Walking Dead/Fear the Walking Dead
  • Truth Seekers
  • Creepshow
  • Star Trek Discovery
  • The Mandalorian
As usual, we don't all agree on every show. But that's what makes it fun!

For our Sensor Sweep, Chief Engineer Bob brings our attention to the latest Mego figures, in particular the new Fly figure! Based off the classic sci fi film, it'll give you a chill. Bob also gives us the heads up on what's coming in the next waves of figures. Would you believe it ranges from Hammer Dracula to plush Stan Lee?  Also coming from Mego is the Creature from the Black Lagoon! The Fly can be found at Walmart, if you can track him down. You may also find Mego figures from other retailers online.

That's it for us this time. We want to hear from you what you're watching. What shows are keeping you company during the pandemic? Let us know!

Thanks for listening!

  1. Great conversation, everyone. I could only relate to a few of the topics, though, as I haven't watched most of this stuff - although I'm now quite interested in Raised by Wolves.
As to what I have watched, I have to share and double-down on Larry's recommendation for Lovecraft Country. I mentioned it over at Karen's blog recently, but I just can't express how excellent I think the series is. I understand being put off by gore/body horror (it's one of the reasons why horror has never been my favorite genre), but as I noted recently at Karen's blog, it really has a valid storytelling purpose rather than just being gratuitous. Karen, you really need to finish watching it - first, because the gory aspects don't get any worse as the series goes along, and two, man, it just keeps getting better as you near the final episode (and the one with Hippolyta living alternate lives after she passes through that dimensional portal is particularly excellent). Since you brought up Watchmen - again, as noted at Karen's site - I think Lovecraft Country deals with racism in America better.
I'll conclude this already wordy comment by making a recommendation of my own: Stargirl! Wonderful, (mostly) light-hearted, comic-booky fun.

  2. All right, Edo - maybe I'll give Lovecraft Country another chance!
