  1. Another good episode, I really enjoyed the discussion.
Personally, I'm not going to even try to come up with a list of my own - there's too many things to pick. Star Trek TOS would definitely be in the running, though, although I'd prefer the possibility of choosing ALL of the Trek series (except - *shudder* -Enterprise). And maybe the Simpsons, because there's soooo many seasons.
Otherwise, though, the disparaging comments about TOS season 3 brought a wry smile to my face. I just wrote a post at the Atomic Junk Shop that addresses that very issue.
Anyway, keep up the good job, everybody.

  2. Edo! Thanks for dropping in. I will check out your post on season 3. It really is tough going at times, although I love Trek dearly. And thanks for mentioning that issue with the comments -I will see if I can fix that. Still working out the bugs here!

  3. Hey Karen. Just re-read my comment, and I think my "p.s." came across as a bit whiny/complainy. Sorry about that. It's not *that* big of a deal, as I do have a (rather neglected) Google account.

  4. Hey Edo, some of us liked Enterprise :)

Another great episode ... you're off to a good start. I always find it hard to pick favourites out of the multitude of shows/movies/comics/books/songs out there, but I'll take a shot.

For shows, I'd probably go with Futurama (because it lends itself to endless analysis) and maybe DS:9 (my favourite of the Trek series). I could pick something with tons of episodes like the Simpsons (which Edo mentioned) or Doctor Who, but I think I'll stick with the two I mentioned. (Of course, I could be a smart-ass and say Charlie's Angels or something like that, but I fear even Jaclyn Smith might get boring after long enough.)

For movies, I'd probably go with the original Star Wars trilogy (because they hold up so well) and maybe Princess Bride and Breakfast Club (yes, I know it's not genre, but it's still great), two of my all-time favourites. I'd like to sneak in Stand By Me (and the Back to the Future trilogy for that matter), but I really don't want to break up that Star Wars set.

Ask me again next week and I may have different answers, but for now, that's what I'll go with.

  5. Hey guys, finally got to listen to the podcast this week. Loved it and am getting to know youse guys better. Walker is the one in the satellite, Bob played movies and loved monsters and Larry keeps saying he's old... and sometimes hints at the bacchanalia that is MonsterCon!!!

A few questions, or future show topics, that came to mind:

what movie quotes do you use most often? how often do those around you actually realize you're dropping movie quotes?

since Walker's in the orbiting platform high overhead, shouldn't she at least have some robots to keep her company?

US Sci Fi versus UK Sci Fi? TV shows and movies? Too close to call? When was their respective "Golden Age"? What's exciting now? Bonus question: Canadian Sci Fi? Still too early to judge? New kid on the block but they're hanging tough? (Yeah, I did it.)

    there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
    Can you....

    Here am I floating
    round my tin can
    Far above the Moon
    Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do).

  6. Hey guys, thanks for listening and commenting! Mike, I really was torn about DS9. I think it's the best all-around Trek, but I was looking at TOS as sort of TV "comfort food." But if asked the same question on a different day, I might have a different answer. In fact, I caught some of an X-Files marathon a week or two ago and I was reminded how good that show was, especially in the early seasons.

Prowler, my mind is blanking on the movie quotes! I know I use a ton. My husband and I will exchange Marvel movie quotes frequently. We like the one from Iron Man -"That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." And speaking for our own Mission Commander Larry, I know a favorite of his is "Fish, plankton, protein from the sea" -can you tell me where that comes from?

UK vs. US sci-fi? I could see us doing that. I know Bob is a big fan of Gerry Anderson shows. I loved Thunderbirds are Go! as a kid. Who knows? I'll radio it back to the command center! And don't worry -I have plenty of robots to keep me company -just not that darn Alexa; she's a spy!

    1. Sorry I’m a little late to the party guys, I appreciate you listening to our little podcast and commenting about the episode and providing ideas for future episodes. I’m thinking we may revisit this again in a future podcast and see if we keep our picks or add something different? Thanks for sharing your guys his lists, i’ll let you all in on a little secret that was not put on the podcast if I were to take a non-genre film with me it would be the Shirley Temple classic Little Princess.

As I think about it, maybe we should upgrade Karen’s satellite to include a H.A.L. unit as she has such an aversion to Alexa, lol.

Bonus points to anyone who can tell Karen and I were my favorite quote is from, I’ll give you guys a huge hint, it’s not from the movie little princess 😜

Guys thanks again for listening, and thanks for posting here! Looking forward to more insightful comments moving forward, if your mission commander signing out 🖖🏼
